The Priory Trust is pleased to continue offering a range of courses as part of the GROW Personal Development & Lifelong Learning Programme. Details of all courses available across the county can be found in the GROW brochures which are widely available from libraries, County Council offices, community centres, schools and colleges.

The following courses are currently planned to run during the Autumn Term - for more details please contact the centre.

Autumn Courses

Flower Arranging

2nd & 9th December
10.30am - 12.30pm (5 weeks)
Cost: £25 (£12.50 concessions) extra material costs may apply

Patchwork Quilting - Table Runner (Beginners)

16th, 23rd & 30th November

10.30am – 12.30pm (4 weeks)
Cost: £20 (£10 concessions) Note: Course cost does not include materials.

Requirements:

7 different 100% cotton fabrics, could be Christmas designs or any other non-seasonal fabrics you like.  Don't feel restricted to Christmas fabrics.  You will need a fat 1/4 of each.  A fat quarter is basically a rectangle of fabric measuring 18 x 22 inches.  Please try to choose 100% cottons as they are much easier to work with in patchwork.

The fabrics should include a range of light, medium, and dark patterns.  If they fabrics are all dark, the design will look 'muddy' on completion of the project.

Please prewash your fabrics in a normal machine wash with or without detergent.  This is basically to take out the chemical sizings and preshrink the fabrics before we cut and sew.  Press your fabrics without distorting the grain of the fabric, using an up and down motion of the iron vs. rubbing the iron.

Towards the end of the course you will need an additional piece of fabric for the binding and one for the backing of the project, as well as wadding, but I will show/explain about that midway through the course.  For the first week you will just need the 7 coordinating fabrics for the patchwork.  We will be cutting out on the first day.  I will show you exactly step by step so don't worry about anything even if you have never tried rotary cutting before!  There are mats/cutters available but if you have your own, do bring it as this will give us fewer people per workstation!
